The author documents a part of the Vietnam War that was clearly military business but not known to this reader. The character development was realistic and the end result was actually not realized until the end. Excellent read!

William Jordan
This was a great read, accurately and interestingly recounting military procedures for dealing with accused criminals in a war setting. The author has created a very suspenseful narrative that keeps the reader on edge until the very end, which surprises and provides a thrilling conclusion to a story very well told. I heartily recommend this book to all who enjoy a mystery well told.

I was first attracted to read this on the recommendation of a fraternity brother at Wake Forest. Since I too served in the military shortly after the time frame of this book, I related to the more mundane experiences described. I liked the way that parallel stories brought the characters together. I anticipated the ending but was held by wondering how the author would get there. If you are a Vietnam era veteran, this will take you back. I look forward to the next book.

I have never served in the military, so I appreciated the descriptive details that the author includes so that all readers can feel close to the characters and their stories. This novel picks up speed as you read it. I liked how the chapter titles were descriptive and each chapter was not too lengthy, making it easy to find a stopping point. (But it was hard to put it down!) 🙂 Highly recommend!!!

Dallas Clark captures the interest of his readers by mingling fact and fiction to create a fascinating wartime legal thriller.
Anyone who has served in the military as I have, especially in Vietnam, or has any interest in the military will enjoy his book.

A gripping military court-martial thriller drawn from the author’s own Vietnam-era experiences. Tinsley E. Yarbrough, Amazon author.

This is a really good book that engages the reader all the way to the end. The character development and dialogue occasionally reminded me of James Lee Burke’s writing style. The story line is interesting and creates a good sort of tension for the reader. One negative: too many mistakes missed by editors. Otherwise, a very enjoyable read.

M. Holdeman
An absolutely riveting page-turner. I have never read military fiction or legal fiction, but this story was engaging, educational, and, at times, charmingly funny. A thriller to the very last page.

Exciting ending with a twist! I read about half of the book and finally decided to get some sleep at 1 am.
Woke up to visit the head at 5 am and could not get the book out of my mind so I had to finish it!
Great job – Dallas!

I met Dallas years ago when I served on the NC State Bar Board of Legal Specialization. I found he was a great lawyer with fine sense of humor. This book showed me a different side of Dallas. The story is believable and this is a hard book to put down. Hope he continues to write novels like this.

When I picked up The Investigation Officer’s File I was skeptical because I was never in the military and it appeared to have a lot of that jargon. However, Dallas Clark explains the military aspects of the storyline so that anyone can understand and enjoy it. The book is an absolute “page turner”. I couldn’t put it down when I got into it. It is very Grisham-esque with the legal twists and turns complete with an ending one could never predict. Read this book! You won’t be sorry. Clark’s first novel should not be his last! I want more of this!

A fast paced well told tale. Enjoyed the military details along with the ever present reminder of a Marine’s sense of duty, honor and country. Ready for the next one Mr. Clark!

If you loan this book to a friend, you will want it back to read again in the future. A very entertaining book that that is hard to put down once you start.

Lee Allen
Captivating and fast-paced, yet laden with details that bring both the heat and humidity of South Vietnam, as well as the JAG officer’s duties to life. The ending is a bolt out of the blue and Mr. Clark definitely leaves the reader wanting more from his pen. Exceptionally well done. Bravo from a former JAGC officer.

This second book in the Woody White series is as captivating and entertaining as the first one. As with the previous work, Dallas Clark holds the attention of his readers with a fast-paced style full of mystery and intrigue. So much so that the book is hard to put down. This is a must read. You will not be disappointed.

This is an engaging read concerning a young criminal attorney straight out of the military and his quest for excellence but never losing the moral judgements with which he was reared It is a fast-paced read with an intriguing side story of the love of his life. This is the second book written by Dallas Clark, and it’s just as good as the first one. Plenty of intrigue to keep you engaged and I especially enjoyed reading about Cherry Point and Greenville….Dallas, I can’t wait for your third book to be published!

Great follow up to Dallas Clark’s first military legal thriller “the Investigation Officers file”. Good story about old friend Captain Woody White, a dashing young attorney in eastern North Carolina . I liked the short concise chapters and the southern gentleman style. Eagerly await the next Woody White thriller

Spencer
A well written entertaining read. From Monticello to Greenville, NC to Havelock and to the coast the story is one that grabs you and captures your interest throughout. What will happen to Woody in the next novel? Looking forward to more.

The Mind of Dan MacAvoy: A Woody White Legal Thriller

ray
The author does an excellent job of leading us through several things. First of all leading us through all the ins and outs of a murder trial. Secondly, leading us through the trials and tribulations that our Warriors have returning from combat. This book, while fiction, could actually be historical fiction. This is because it accurately describes what our servicemen are facing as they reenter society when they have been trained to kill the enemy. What job does that qualify them for?
Finally the author humanizes his characters!

GreenPirate
Another intriguing book by Dallas Clark. It’s thoughtfully written with such detail that you feel you know the characters. This is a murder mystery that grips you almost immediately. The respect and acknowledgment for our service members is woven throughout the book, but not smothering. I learn something new with each book written by Dallas Clark. Hint ~ have some tissue nearby.

Kenneth Wehr
Very suspenseful. Great verbal picture of the mental status of a normal appearing young man exposed to major mental trauma of war experience. Third book or the series is just as interesting as the first two books by this author.

Spencer
A gripping and heart felt story of the sometimes consequences of intense battle. The story of a Marine caught an intense firefight with lifetime consequences. With little mental support available, he suffers dramatically and makes a terrible mistake as a result. The story is well woven and builds to a crescendo leading to results that will gripe the reader and leave one thinking for sometime afterward.

Lee Allen
Mr. Clark has given us his best, in this, his third novel. He is proving himself to be an excellent story teller by using his experience as both an officer of Marines and as a wise litigator with decades in the court room. This novel will appeal to lawyers and lay people alike.

JC
The best yet! I actually got emotional while reading this- the trial was portrayed so well and the ending with such a surprise!

Thoms S. Pressly
The subject matter was so believable, and I’m
sure, though circumstances may vary in other cases, the climax has happened many times.
The innate gift of compassion and understanding are great attributes to possess
and use. GREAT BOOK !!’

It is important for Americans to know the terrible price that so many of our fellow citizens have paid in their military service while serving our country. This story about a Marine who fought in Vietnam and came home deeply, mentally scarred is so well written that the reader will find it difficult to put the book down until finishing the story. Events and the reactions to them keep the reader’s interest at a very high level, and the ending of the story will give the reader cause for much thought.
